THERE was no mistaking the message being delivered at Marian Catholic College yesterday.
Staff and students at the school threw their support behind White Ribbon Day by holding a host of activities, which included creating a giant banner.
SRC coordinators and organisers of the event, Alison Jafari and Jessica Bonnett, said the aim was to create awareness about violence against women.
“For us together this is a really important issue. White Ribbon Day is an international day for the elimination of violence against women,” Ms Jafari said.
“We chose to be part of this event to hopefully create awareness in our community and to encourage students to have healthy and respectful relationships.
“We recognise the importance of days like this in that we are showing students that violence is not okay, in anyway, shape or form.”
Students and staff marked White Ribbon Day by wearing something white and donating a gold coin, with all funds going to the Griffith Women’s Refuge.
They also made a personal pledge by tracing their hand on white cardboard and writing a message about violence against women in the palm.
“We are all signing the banner and it will hang out the front of the school for the rest of this week to demonstrate that we understand the impact that violence against women has, not only on the lives of women, but also on their children,” Ms Bonnett said.
