THE race for Griffith’s most impressive facial hair is expected to be won or lost by a mere whisker.
As Movember wraps up for another year, local blokes will have their facial hair judged and then shaved tonight, between 6pm and 9pm, at The Area Hotel in the beer garden.
Movember involved more than 180 Griffith men, or “Mo Bros”, with support from “Mo Sistas”, growing a moustache throughout the month of November.
Their aim was to raise money and awareness to benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue.
The boys from Elders have endured a month of shady looks and Chopper Read references but they say it’s been worth every single sideways glance.
“This is the first time I’ve grown one. It’s been itchy and it took a while to get it established,” Elders merchandise sales representative Ryan Smith said.
“It’s been good fun because we did it as a team and we’ve had a lot of laughs together. But the best thing has been it’s all been for the right reason – raise money and awareness.”
The Personnel Group (TPG) was the driving force behind the local challenge. Western Riverina manager Lexi King said tonight’s shave off would be a fun event for the whole community.
“I’m absolutely astounded by the 180 men in Griffith who registered,” she said.
“We know there are a whole lot more in town who registered nationally too. I’ve been blown away with not only the efforts of the blokes, but girls who have helped and businesses.”
