A COLD-HEARTED act of aggression aimed at a man arrested on drug charges has backfired tragically, devastating an innocent local family caught up in the drama.
Four horses agisted in a paddock located behind the Pasquale Barbaro residence, one of the men accused of playing a part in the world’s largest ecstasy haul, were poisoned and died in what a local mother believes to be a vendetta attack gone wrong.
The Welsh mountain miniature horses were actually owned by Kaylah-Jane Linnell, 11, and her mother Debby has issued an impassioned plea to the community to let justice take its course.
“All I’m asking is for this to stop before it goes any further,” she said.
“My little girl has to suffer for the stupidity of others. She has worked so hard to get these horses, she’s spent her weekends picking oranges and doing other odd jobs and now all her dreams are gone.
“The courts are there for a reason and people need to leave it in the hands of the court before more innocent victims get hurt.”
The horses are valued at around $17,000 and are thought to have been poisoned four days after the arrests took place on what has been dubbed ‘Black Friday’, August 11.
“We just rent a house up the road, we have nothing to do with any of this. A little girl shouldn’t have to deal with something like this,” Mrs Linnell said.
“I’m worried about my children. If my grandchildren had been down there and touched the water, they could have been killed.
“Let it go, it’s happened and now the courts can deal with these men. This sort of thing is just making the town look bad.”
Griffith police said the cause of the four horses’ deaths had not been confirmed. They would not be drawn on whether the possible poisoning was linked to the arrests.
