SIX weeks out from Christmas and one lucky local couple has scored an early present.

The elated Griffith pair has won the first prize of $100,000 in the $2 Jackpot Lottery 9160.

They purchased their ticket from the Griffin Plaza Newsagency and as registered players were given the good news by NSW Lotteries officials on Monday.

“It’s going to be a big surprise for my husband when he gets home,” the excited woman told the NSW Lotteries official.

“It feels great to win this money as it takes the worry away.”

Teresa Reginato, who sold the winning ticket, said she was delighted to hear that one of her regular customers had won a major prize.

“I’m so excited for them. The timing couldn’t be better with Christmas just around the corner,” she said.

“This win has broken our dry spell of major winners. It’s been a while. The last one was at the beginning of last year.

“With the drought, the win will give people a bit of hope that if it can happen to someone buying their ticket in Griffith, that maybe it can happen to them.”

Mrs Reginato said the best advice she can give players is to join the NSW Players Club.

Meanwhile, an unregistered ticket at Hillston Newsagency took out third prize of $5000 also in the $2 Jackpot, but the winner is yet to claim the prize.

LUCKY LOCALS: A local couple has won $100,000 in the $2 Jackpot Lottery. Griffin Plaza Newsagency sales assistant Maria Calabria hopes the win will give hope to their other customers.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
