HOW do you turn a mediocre moggy into an online, feline phenomenon? Just add water.
The unlikely mix of bathwater – usually kryptonite for cats – and online video-
sharing site YouTube have transformed Collina tabby Jenna into one of the coolest cats on the planet.
A home video of Jenna
frolicking in the bath has attracted more than 660,000 hits on YouTube and seen her featured on TV shows from Japan to Buenos Aires.
Her rocket to stardom was launched about a year ago, when owner and 2RG radio announcer Brad George and wife Rebecca thought they’d test the waters with their new puss.
“Beck put her in the bath for a wash and instead of screaming, like most cats would, Jenna started splashing about happily,” Brad said.
“I just thought, ‘I’d better get this on video to show Mum’.
“I put it on YouTube because that was the easiest way I could show her.”
It didn’t take long for Jenna’s bathtime behaviour to earn online cult status.
“The number of views just started going up and up,” Brad said.
“We couldn't believe it when it hit 100,000 and then it hit half a million and we were just blown away.
“And then it was featured on TV shows in places like Japan and New Zealand. I’ve heard she’s massive in Buenos Aires too.”
And has all the attention gone to Jenna’s head? You bet.
“She’s a ratbag … such a show pony,” Brad said.
“She wants to be the centre of attention all the time and I joke she’s now more famous than her radio announcer owner.
“But she’s a top cat.”
Adoring fans have left more than 1000 online messages for Jenna, ranging from requests for “paw signatures” to claims of animal abuse for letting the cat swim in water.
